Hyperhidrosis: Excessive Sweating, Its’ Causes & How to Finally Stop It !
Never let’em see you sweat!
Ha ! Whoever said that never had hyperhidrosis.
And apparently, some 365 Million of us have this problem.
Can you believe it ?
365 Million people suffer from Hyperhidrosis (1)?!!
This equates to approximately 5% of the world’s population (2).
I would even estimate that there are more of us than that because like me, many individuals have not even reported this health problem to anybody, let alone their doctors.
It’s one of those ‘silent’ epidemics that, by-and-large, goes unreported.
And you already know the narrative on this.
You can’t go anywhere without breaking out in a sweat. And it’ll happen at the darndest times. No reason. It just starts.
Either the palms or the armpits. Sometimes, it’s the forehead.
You excuse yourself to find the nearest restroom.
You try to wipe. You try to dry off. You even stand in front of the airdryer. Darn. It’s only a temporary reprieve.
How can you go out there and them not notice the growing sweat ring under your arms?
It’s so embarrassing.
And then I’d dread going out. Going anywhere.
My life became so limited.
I’d even get comments:
“Uhhh, I don’t mean to be rude, but have you showered today?”
Or this one, “Have you tried deodorant?” …like dah…
It all began…
As far as I can recall, it began for me when I hit puberty.
My Mom noticed that I had a particularly strong smell and got me a medicated deodorant in the hopes that it would help stop it.
Well it didn’t.
And that was some 43 years ago.
And in spite of my best efforts to resolve this issue, nothing worked.
It seems that I’d go in spurts.
I’d be sort of fine.
Then, out of the blue (it seemed), my underarms would be sweating profusely.
Have you found the same thing to be true for you ?
Over the years, it has affected me in various ways. Perhaps you can relate to:
- sweaty palms
- sweaty armpits
- sweaty groin
Others that I know have issues with excessive sweating on their back. For others still, it’s their feet.
So tons of researching, tons of wasted money on deodorants and anti-perspirants and body powders, and even some natural remedies, while somewhat effective temporarily, left me still perspiring, and even worse, still smelling badly.
The Latest Developments For Hyperhidrosis
Now, I’m certain that you’ve most likely done the same research as I have only to find that nobody—not a single organization or individual out there—has come up with anything more than topical and more expensive surgical (both invasive and non-invasive) ‘solutions’ that still DO NOT fully resolve the problem.
From:
- Stronger or medicated deodorants (3) ….which really don’t stop the problem, to…
- To a medicated wipe (4)
- A BOTOX ‘solution’ that’s done with injections directly into the area where the excessive perspiration is happening that seems to “temporarily block the secretion of chemical that is responsible for ‘turning on’ the body’s sweat glands” (4).
(BOTOX for BO? And for sweating? While I cannot speak to the ramifications of injecting BOTOX into my body, it is a practice that I do NOT agree with and cannot condone for the very strong potential of negative long-term health effects on the body. It’s bad enough that we inject dead viruses in the form of vaccines into our bodies, but onabotulinumtoxinA, no thank you, at least IMHO.) - To laser (microwave) treatments (5) that ‘kill’ the functioning of the eccrine (glands that produce the clear, watery, odorless sweat) and apocrine (glands that produce the sweat that smells badly) cells where the excessive perspiration happens, to…
- Surgical removal (6) of axillary (underarm) sweat and odor glands where the glands may be cut out (excised), scraped out (curretage), or sucked out (liposuction) ….which they say helps to greatly reduce sweating and foul body odor. (One of my least ‘favorite’ methods of addressing this issue—more on that later.)
- To the most deeply invasive and irreversible endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) surgery (7).
Unfortunately, these means of addressing Hyperhidrosis still don’t address the cause of this problem and DON’T truly STOP THE PROBLEM, either. The body still needs to sweat. It’s a matter of returning it to more near normal.
So these findings, to me, were not the answer.
And so my research, as usual (at least according to my ‘Health Detective’ standards) needed to take a different tack.
I had to dig deeper.
And I had to think outside the box.
Because the answers, I figured, weren’t going to be found in the typical places where others have been looking.
And I was right.
Finally, A Solution !
And so it’s taken me almost 40 years to understand this problem and to find a solution.
I used to suffer from this.
That’s right, “Used to”.
And because you suffer from this problem, too, you can well understand my extreme JOY at finding a solution.
Here’s what I found.
