How I became a Health Detective
I began with a casual interest in nutrition about 26 years ago now, and along the way I became a serious student of health and nutrition. That was about 15 years ago at this point, just shortly after the birth of my second daughter.
It’s amazing what a person will do when the health and well-being of their children are concerned.
In my case, what got the ball rolling, was that I was having difficulty keeping up with my second daughter’s need (then, an infant of 5 months old) for breastmilk (since I was breastfeeding).
Since I had no intention of stopping breastfeeding until she was 2 years old, I had to find out:
- why my body was having trouble producing sufficient breastmilk,
- how to get my body to produce MORE breastmilk.
…and I wasn’t about to change my mind.
Hell Hath No Fury Like… A Parent On A Mission!
Moms and Dads, you know what I’m talking about.
When your baby is in need, there is nothing on this Earth that will stop you from finding the answer you need. NOTHING !
I would move Heaven and Earth for my babies, and sometimes, quite literally, it seemed like I did.
You want to talk holistic, healthy, brain nourishing, immunity-enhancing, physically-developing, loving, gentle care…you name it, I was doing it for my girls !!
Well, I found the answer to my breastmilk problem and my breasts started producing more milk.
Then, a different unrelated problem developed when my second daughter was about 1 1/2 years old—a terrible eczematous rash on her little neck and upper chest, and I needed to find out why.
Back to doing research.
…and if you can guess what my results were, you’d be correct.
I found the answers to both of these health issues.
And you wouldn’t believe how difficult it was to find the “right” answers!!
There is so much bull out there—crappy information, “wanna-be” answers that always, in application, lacked important puzzle pieces.
Well, anyways, that’s what started this whole ball rolling.
Since then, life has dealt me an interesting hand with various health issues to overcome or help overcome.
Multiple Failures + A Few Successes Lead To A Vast Database of Knowledge
In those early years, I had my share of “failed” attempts (like I just explained, because of “wanna-be” answers that lacked important puzzle pieces) while I was on the learning track.
I’ve tried so many of the wanna-be “cures/products/protocols” out there.
All of the “latest” and “greatest” new discoveries and hyped “cure-alls”.
I’ve seen them come and I’ve seen them go.
Some have stayed the course, but not many.
A few were good (that’s why they’re still here), but many were all hype or lacking in something.
They either didn’t address the whole issue, at least from my own experience with them, and from what I could see for other people.
Those are the kinds of things that I discovered along the way, and as such, they contributed greatly to my education in this area of health and nutrition.
I can’t really say, then, that any of my “failed” attempts were a waste (although my husband might disagree…).
I, at least, found out which ones worked and which ones didn’t.
And for that, the money was well spent (although, like I just said, my husband might disagree).
…And It All Started Coming Together
All that being said, about 6 ago now, “everything” meaning:
- everything that I had learned and tried,
- all of the successes and failed efforts,
- all that I had learnt and observed about the human body
finally seemed to “come together and click” in my head.
My huge mental database (aka my “brain”) started piecing “things” together rather quickly.
I started being able “to see” and “understand” and “put together” solutions for various health problems, solutions that weren’t found in any of the medical research literature nor in any of the anecdotal health books that I had come across.
Neither could I simply “google” any of these solutions.
In their entirety, there was no single source for any of the “solutions” that I had managed to put together.
They didn’t exist out there, anywhere. Only in my head.
As a result, I’ve developed a fairly diverse and extensive “mental library” of information for a variety of ailments, both common and mysterious, ranging from the not-so-challenging to the extremely-challenging.
And now, I hope to help people who are looking for answers find them.
